The Counseling & Educational Center commitment to the community

The Counseling & Educational Center was created by Renee Hodgins.  Renee has served as a mental healthcare professional, educator and advocate.  When I started my graduate training as a mental health counselor, it was often stated that the Black community turned to the church in times of need.  Although I support a spiritual balance, it does not take the place of seeking mental health services.  

I have held numerous positions throughout my career, from teacher, academic advisor, nonprofit counselor, private practice owner.  In each of my positions, I have taken pride in serving the underserved populations.  My goal is to provide tools to manage, and thrive by embracing our strengths and supports.

The Counseling & Educational Center focuses on psychotherapy, supervision and consultation.  We embrace pre-licensed counselors, interns, and undergraduate practicum students.    We provide a teaching and learning opportunity that will give relevant and beneficial mental health services back to the community.
